Secondary Curriculum

Secondary Curriculum:

In the first three years of the Secondary School pupils follow the whole range of National Curriculum subjects. In addition, Spanish Language and Humanities (sociales) are taught according to the requirements of the Spanish Ministry of Education, while those new to the language are offered support classes. Pupils also follow a comprehensive personal and social education programme, covering areas such as citizenship, health, careers, and study skills. In Years 10 and 11 pupils are prepared for the IGCSE examinations in a wide range of subjects, which include options such as Business studies, Art and Design, History or Geography. In addition to the examination programme, pupils continue to have Physical Education, as well as classes in personal and social education. During the final two years, pupils follow Advanced Subsidiary courses and A Level courses.

Pupils are advised individually on the subjects and number of courses that they should follow. The normal recommendation is that they should take 5 subjects at AS / A Level, chosen both to make the best use of their abilities and interests, and to ensure breadth and balance of study.

Pupils are also prepared for the Spanish university system, both through the A levels and complementary classes in Spanish dealing with the specific content and examination requirements established by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Physical Education as well as Personal Social Education classes continue to be given.
