PRIMARY
Developing minds in our British Secondary School
In Primary, we combine high academic standards from the British curriculum with superb pastoral care to give our children the confidence and ability to succeed. Our broad and balanced programme builds on the work begun in Early Years and lays strong foundations for outstanding academic progress.
We follow a topic-based approach, using carefully selected children’s literature to inspire each area of learning, fostering creativity, critical thinking and a love of learning. Our children are taught that mistakes are part of learning — a means to know how to improve and get better next time — developing strong study habits and a growth mindset. Technology is incorporated throughout the British Primary curriculum — from Year 3, each pupil has an individual iPad for use at school and at home — and parents are able to see specific pieces of work, listen to teacher feedback and watch how learning develops through our Classroom platform app.
SECONDARY
A strong foundation for their academic and personal future
In Secondary, we guide our students through a decisive stage of their education, preparing them rigorously for examinations and for the next phases of their academic journey. We reinforce the core subjects — English, Mathematics and Spanish — alongside the sciences, humanities and technology, ensuring both breadth and depth of knowledge. There is also a strong focus on wellbeing (pastoral care).
Subjects are taught by specialist, native British teachers in a way that encourages students to think for themselves, solve problems, collaborate with others and gain a deep understanding of the material.
The lessons are varied and include the use of technology where appropriate to help personalise and accelerate learning. There is a strong emphasis on practical activities in numerous subjects: science experiments in specialist laboratories; drama in the theatre; music in the music room; and art in the art studios. In addition they start a third language, French, and take a range of creative subjects to help them discover their talents and define their future with confidence.
OUR TEAM
British school with native teachers
As a British primary school, we adopt a text-based approach to literacy, thoroughly exploring topic-based books to enable children to immerse themselves in the text and write for a range of purposes. Weekly oracy sessions also allow children to engage in discussions and debate, encouraging them to think philosophically and ask thought-provoking questions. Opportunities for individual presentations additionally enable children to hone their speaking and listening skills in front of their peers.
The most important factor in the quality of a child’s education is their teachers. We have a team of professional and highly trained teachers, mostly from the UK, who are committed to helping students fulfil their potential.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Preparing for IGCSEs
During these two years, students work towards the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations. These official exams are taken at the end of Year 11.
Subjects are now studied in more depth. Some of them are compulsory and decisions must be made as to which optional subjects to take.
There is a core of compulsory subjects (Maths, English, Spanish and at least one science) but then students have five choices and can shape the curriculum more towards the subjects they love and are good at.
