Wellbeing & Support

We provide full support for your child's physical, emotional and psychological health

Student wellbeing (often called pastoral care in the British system) is the foundation of a Hastings education. We strongly believe that students need to feel happy and confident at school if they are to thrive.

Pastoral care at Hastings

Proactive pastoral care

We focus on educating our students in positive mental health; particularly how they can develop the tools to cope with difficult moments they may experience at school or once they have left.

Reactive pastoral care

We support students who may be going through a tough time. Childhood, particularly the teenage years, can be challenging and some students will inevitably need extra care and support.

School Environment

A supportive and happy environment

We emphasise kind behaviour, we have zero tolerance of bullying and we have a large team of adults - including a full time school psychologist - to help the students.

We conduct a Wellbeing Survey every year with all students from Year 3-13 and, while there are lots of areas to work on, it shows a school where students are happy, feel supported and where bullying is rare. This is vitally important as when students are happy at school, everything else tends to work properly (and vice versa).

I feel the school cares not only for the wellbeing of our kids but also their parents. When asked about a child, the teachers genuinely describe and comment on our individual children.

LEARNING SUPPORT

Every student is nurtured and supported

Hastings School has a well-established Learning Support Department led by Mr Cook. We can provide support for students with mild learning needs (such as dyslexia or dyspraxia) or help for students who need a boost with their English or maths.
