At Hastings School, we take great pride in celebrating the achievements of our students long after they leave our classrooms. Their successes reflect not only academic excellence, but also the confidence, curiosity and global perspective that we strive to nurture throughout their educational journey.

One such example is former Hastings student Sofía Ramos, whose remarkable path has led her to an exceptional international opportunity. Following her gap year, Sofía will join the prestigious Dual Degree Programme between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University, where she will study European Studies and Political Science.

This highly selective programme allows students to study at two world-renowned institutions while developing a truly international academic perspective. For Sofía, the opportunity represents the next chapter in a journey shaped by ambition, intellectual curiosity and a willingness to embrace challenges beyond traditional pathways.

Reflecting on her time at Hastings School, Sofía highlights the school’s emphasis on developing well-rounded individuals beyond academic achievement alone. She believes one of the most valuable aspects of her education was the encouragement to think independently, explore different possibilities and develop the confidence to pursue unconventional opportunities.

Her experience extended far beyond the classroom. At just fourteen years old, Sofía worked alongside school leaders on sustainability initiatives, helping oversee projects related to forest planting and the implementation of solar panels across Hastings campuses. Experiences such as these allowed her to develop leadership skills, responsibility and a broader understanding of the impact young people can have within their communities.

Currently completing a gap year with Baret Scholars, Sofía is embracing a truly global experience before beginning university. Her journey has already taken her to destinations such as Jaipur, with future experiences planned in Shanghai and Seoul, providing further opportunities for cultural exchange, personal growth and international understanding.

Sofía’s story is a powerful example of what it means to become future-ready. Her achievements reflect not only academic success, but also adaptability, resilience and a global mindset—qualities that are increasingly important in an interconnected world.

At Hastings School, we believe education is about preparing students not only for examinations and university, but for meaningful lives as engaged global citizens. Sofía’s journey demonstrates how academic excellence, combined with curiosity, character and real-world experiences, can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of Sofía and look forward to following the next stages of her academic and personal journey. We have no doubt she will continue to make a positive impact wherever her path takes her.
